Our high school program is known at First Covenant as S.P.A.M. (Students Pursuing Almighty Matters) and meets regularly at 6 p.m. on Sunday nights in the church's youth room. Outreach events, Bible studies and service elements are among the activities that make up the evening sessions. Sunday school class for high school students is also well attended. For early risers with an appetite, there is a 7 a.m. breakfast each Tuesday at the home of pastors Craig and Mary Pinley that gives students a chance to pray for each other. At First Covenant, students are given numerous opportunities to participate and contribute to Sunday morning worship services and serve in various ministries at First Covenant. Off campus experiences are keys to spiritual growth as well. Students annually attend a regional weekend camp in the winter and can attend camp each summer as well. Sometimes we travel even further. During the summer of 2005, eight students and two counselors headed to Juarez, Mexico, for an urban mission trip. In July 2006, students we attended a triennial denominational high school event in Knoxville, Tennessee, along with more than 6,000 other teens. This summer we are planning a return trip to Juarez July 15-25. Of course, there are plenty of other informal relational activities (think informal pranks, impromptu birthday parties, or trips to watch our students in various high school events) that occur too, making S.P.A.M. a great place to be.
